not in Houston

I had never been in Texas before. The best thing about the Houston airport is that is has the lowest relative concentration of Texans in Texas. It was 97 and humid. The waterfountains jetted out warm water. I spent more than six hours in that place. I was constantly vigilant that if I j-walked I may be executed. I will tell my favorite Texas joke that I made all by myself:
“Why do they execute the mentally handicapped in texas?”
“Because otherwise they couldn’t execute anybody!”
After a weekend (18 hours plane to plane) in Mexico City doing cultural sensitivity training I realized Southerners are the only people I am prejudiced towards. I don’t wish them harm – but certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to ensure their overall fertility. My problem with them is that they were presented with the wonder of the American Dream and decided NASCAR, racism, and a dislike of book-learnin‘ were the way to go. But the awesome part of America is that it is their choice. Perhaps it is like that t-shirt with “I hate racists” on it. I understand it is a different culture that is changing too. I have a number of friend from below the mason-dixon line. It is just not a place for me.
