Google, as a company, is like the Sterling Cooper advertising agency in AMC’s Man Men. Both sell ad space and add a little extra. Google provides a search engine, gmail, and new operating systems (Android for phones and Chrome OS for computers) while Sterling Cooper has Don Draper give you an inspiring speech about insights into human perception and then has an affair with your daughter, wife, and secretary. Google makes its money by selling ads. The search engine is just the sizzle on the steak. If you didn’t get the Mad Men reference, you should watch it, if only because it will help in making sense of the New York Times opinion section – as they mention it every other day. The season finale of Man Men was a brilliant concept tying together the saga of America economic struggles.
